Jigsaw

Pieces with proper tabs and blanks, scattered around the board. Drag them in; the right neighbours snap together, and a group dropped near its place locks onto the board.

Tools on the table

Every move is saved straight away; close the tab, come back later, and the table looks exactly as before.

How to build faster

Start with the frame. Edge pieces have one flat side and corner pieces two; with Edges only on, a 24-piece frame takes a minute.

Then build from the most distinctive area of the picture: a lighthouse, a bright window, a red kite. Leave skies, seas and fields for last, when the remaining spaces tell you where those pieces go.

In the plain areas, read the shape of the piece rather than the picture: count tabs and blanks and match them to the gap.

On a small screen, zoom in on one corner and build there instead of dragging pieces across the whole table.

Choosing the size

Twelve pieces suit a phone held upright and take a couple of minutes. Twenty-four pieces is a good fit for a tablet and a short break. Forty-eight pieces is a proper sit-down puzzle, best on a larger screen or with Sort and zoom. Every picture on the site has detail in all its corners, so even 48 pieces never leave you with a patch of sky where every piece looks the same.

Questions

How many pieces are there?

Choose 12, 24 or 48. On our 3:2 pictures that makes grids of 4×3, 6×4 and 8×6 pieces.

Do pieces rotate?

No. Every piece arrives the right way up, so you only have to find its place.

Is the cut the same for everybody?

On a picture's own page and in the daily lamp, yes: the cut and the shuffle come from a seed. Free play gives a new cut each time.
